Arditti Quartet at Aldeburgh

JG performs Jonathan Harvey’s Fourth String Quartet with the Arditti Quartet at this year’s Aldeburgh Music Festival.

Harvey’s Fourth String Quartet is a challenging work for string quartet and live electronics. The electronics part is performed interactively using Max/MSP software, several faders and 6-way panners. I spent several days learning and memorising the part to make sure I knew what I was doing when the Arditti’s arrived for rehearsal. I managed to spend a couple of hours fine tuning the system before rehearsals and was satisfied with the sound. We did two run throughs for my benefit – further rehearsal was not necessary. The concert was sold out and I was happy with the performance.

No photographs unfortunately.
