JG Records Trombone & Live Electronics Pieces

Following the concert, JG records David Purser performing the pieces at the Recital Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire.

A rather tricky couple of days recording surround sound pieces into stereo. I chose to use my Schoeps omnis to pickup sound from all around the hall. The main difficulty was that the trombone was always inside the fixed circle of eight speakers. So it was always too loud for recording purposes. We over came this by raising the mics an extra meter or so than normal, and by turning the amps up a little bit. It came out quite well in the end with a good balance between trombone and electronics, and direct and reverberant sound.
