Jubilation at the Royal Festival Hall

Preparing and setting up the synth for George Benjamin’s ochestral work Jubilation. Performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra with the composer conducting.

I had intended to load the DX7 presets into Native Instruments FM8 software so that any MIDI keyboard could be hired. Although FM8 could replicate the sounds very well (with a little tweaking), the portamento algorithm differs slightly from the DX7 so was unsuitable in the end. Jubilation makes use portamento in a very specific way, so a DX7 had to be hired in for the concert.

The DX7 audio and MIDI output were recorded during rehearsals to assist in rebuilding the synth part in software sometime in the future.
